Unit Groupings
At Macquarie we use the terminology 'unit' to label a 'subject' that is taught for several hours per week over the course of two to thirteen weeks. The total number of classroom hours for a unit is usually 39. Units may be called courses or modules at other universities. At Macquarie, a course is a program leading to the award of a qualification such as B.IC, MA in IC or PhD in IC. A full load for a semester is 3 (minimum) or 4 (maximum) units. The full degree consists of 8 four credit point units and may be completed full time either in one year (4 units per semester) or over 1.5 years (3 units in the first, 3 units in the second and 2 units in the final semester).
